What is a WETT Inspection?

A WETT Inspection is an assessment of a solid fuel (wood) burning system to ensure its compliance with Canadian Residential Fire Code.​

Why Do I Need One?

 

  • You are buying or selling a home with a wood-burning appliance

  • Your insurance company requires it in order to obtain fire insurance

  • Your appliance is not performing properly

What We Offer

Level 1 Inspection

We offer the Level 1 (Visual) WETT Inspection. This level is typically adequate for ensuring code compliance and obtaining insurance. Many insurance companies require regular Level 1 inspections to be conducted.

Scope of Inspection

Level 1 - Visual

  • Visual assessment

  • Measurements of clearances

  • Opening stove doors and all ground-accessible dampers/clean out doors

  • Visual inspection of the chimney from the ground

  • Report documenting any noted deficiencies

Level 2 - Technical

Level 1 Inspection plus:

  • Taking apart flue pipes

  • Opening all clean-outs

  • Entering attic to view additional system components

  • Accessing the chimney on the roof

  • Reviewing condition of removed or exposed components to observe creosote quantities

Level 3 - Invasive

Level 2 Inspection plus:

  • Opening walls or ceilings

  • Disassembly of system or major invasive work

  • Extensive and full examination of chimney liners
